HTC Desire launch date & price

Hi All

So.. the news you’ve been waiting for is here.

We’ve finally had confirmation from HTC of our delivery date for the HTC Desire. It will launch in all of our channels (online, in-store, retention etc) on Tuesday 20th April.

Price for new customers:

Pay Monthly – £35 Internet Texter plan – £35 per month, free phone, unlimited texts, unlimited internet, unlimited 3-to-3 calls and 750 minutes

Pay As You Go – £349.99

This is the non-3 branded version of the phone. Once again, based on your comments on the blog, we’ve decided to launch this version. You’re making us revisit the way we do business.

The 3 branded version with all of our usual products & services will follow from 3rd May – but we’re working really hard to bring this forward. Everyone that buys the generic version of the phone will be able to download our usual apps from the Android Marketplace once they’re available.

We’re unbelievably excited to have this phone on our network, and been working really hard alongside HTC to launch as early as we possibly can. This is hopefully the start of something new when it comes to us launching phones in line with the rest of the market ;-) .

Thanks again for your feedback. I’m sorry if it seems hard to get information out of us sometimes but often our negotiations are really close to the wire. We literally only had this all confirmed this morning. We’re not trying to pull the wool over your eyes when we seem vague – most of the time we just don’t know all of the details you’re asking us for in advance.

This news is hot off the press, so if you call us or go into store and they don’t have this information, please be patient. It’s still filtering through the business. Given that our blog community has been so fundamental in making this happen, I wanted you guys to be told first.

I hope you all enjoy it!

@John T – do you have Planet 3 and Favourites on your handset? If so head to those and click on the logos for Skype and Windows Live Messenger. This will download everything you need. If you don’t have them head to Market and download our Three bookmark, which will give you Planet 3 and access to all the right stuff.

Whats happening with Skype and MSN?
I was told when i bought this phone it would come pre-installed and it did not nor can i found any downloads for it.
Still using my E71 and would apprecaite some indication what is happening!?

@simonL – When we say unbranded (out-of-the-box generic) that means that apps like Skype and Windows Live Messenger aren’t pre-installed, and you don’t get direct links to Planet 3 or Favourites (or our lovely Three logo wallpaper!). You’ll be able to download our apps from Market.

So what is the difference between an out-of-the-box generice Desire & a Three branded one?

@craig – we’re still replenishing our stocks so that we can get stores back up and running for Desire. For now you’re best off heading to our website

@Karen – ok, no worries. I’ll drop you an email to get a few details and we’ll give you a call

    hi,
i was wondering if anybody knows when the htc desire will be available on 3 stores again. it seems like nobody knows anything about it. i phoned 3 customer service but they have no idea, and i also tried local stores but no chance either.
somebody told me that it might be not earlier than july. could it be correct?

    thanks.

    Hello again,

I have turned off the Wi-Fi and tried the link and it says web page not available. Do I need to do anything to get on 3G? I’m not very technical!

  9. Moderator on June 8, 2010

@Karen – you’ll need to make sure you’re on 3G and not 2G or Wi-Fi to access the link. Best way to make sure you’re not on Wi-Fi is to switch it off completely. If you’re definitely on 3G and it’s still not working comment again and we’ll give you a call :-)

Now it says that the page cannot be found.

  11. Karen Twine on June 7, 2010

I’m on the the Internet Texter 900 plan for £33 with the HTC desire. When I click on the link from the text on my phone, it says ‘web page not available’.

@Karen Twine – If you’re using an HTC Desire on any of our tariffs with internet included, or our Internet Max add-on, you can text ‘Spotify’ to 39000 to get your free Spotify. If you have upgraded to one of our new Internet Texter tariffs then you’ll be offered 2 months free Spotify Premium, if you are on the Internet Texter 900 plan, you’ll get 24 months Spotify Premium included.

Can you give me a bit more detail on what you mean by the link not working? Would the page not load? Or were you not given the option to download?

  13. Karen Twine on June 7, 2010

    Hi,

I have just been on the phone to 3, who told me that I should have asked for a voucher for spotify premium when I upgraded to my HTC Desire and I am no longer eligible for the promotion. When I found I was within my 14 day cool off/trail period, I was then informed that Spotify was not compatible with the HTC desire and that it had never been part of the package.

I have text the number given on this site and the link did not work, it seems that this has been a problem for others also.

Is there any other advice? The 2 years Spotify Premium was a major part of my phone and contract choice.

I’m on a directtalker contract – this means I have 50mins of video calling but my HTC Desire does not permit video calling (theres no front-facing phone). So how am I meant to use the 50mins?

  15. Moderator on June 2, 2010

@daniel – just text ‘Spotify’ to 39000 from your Three phone. You’ll be sent a link which will give you the option of downloading Spotify Premium. Let me know how you get on

  16. daniel on June 1, 2010

im still want to know how i get my free spotify for 24mnths wen i phoned three they sed i have to pay why is that when wen i got my phone on the reciept bit it said i get 24mths free

  17. Moderator on June 1, 2010

@Dean – a few of us have just tried it here an it seems to be working ok. Are you getting the link in the text message? When you click on the link, where are you taken? It’ll only work on your Three mobile BTW, not PC.

  18. Dean on June 1, 2010

Do your guys actually want to sell anything, jeez.

So I really want to try out Spotify and as per thread posted earlier:

This is a brand new offer, and there’s no need for a voucher. To activate, just text ‘Spotify’ to 39000. You’ll be sent a link to our Spotify mobile page which will recognise your phone and tariff and offer you 1, 2 or 24 months Spotify Premium, let you set up a user ID, or use an existing free Spotify ID and allow you to download the Spotify Mobile App.

So – I’ve just texted this number and the page doesnt exist!!! Tried via website as well and same thing.

You need to fire your web content managers.
