Very brief update from me.

As we’ve said again and again on this blog, your feedback is really important to us.

We’ve read all of your Desire comments, and have really taken on board your thoughts on pricing and tariffs.

As a result, we’ve decided to broaden the range of tariffs available from the 20th.

The Desire will now be available on Pay Monthly on the following deals:

- £35 Internet Texter, 750 minutes, Unlimited texts, Unlimited internet, free Spotify for length of the contract, 24 months – free phone
- £25 Internet Texter, 500 minutes, Unlimited texts, Unlimited internet, free Spotify for a month, 24 months – upfront charge of £99.99
- £20 Internet Texter, 200 minutes, Unlimited texts, Unlimited internet, free Spotify for a month, 24 months – upfront charge of £149.99

- £35 Texter, 750 minutes, Unlimited texts, 18 months – upfront charge of £99.99
- £25 Texter, 500 minutes, Unlimited texts, 18 months – upfront charge of £149.99
- £20 Texter, 200 minutes, Unlimited texts, 18 months – upfront charge of £149.99
- £15 Texter, 75 minutes, Unlimited texts, 18 months – upfront charge of £199.99

Pre-sale for the £35 Internet Texter and for all of the Texter plans is live now – some of you have already spotted this. The other Internet Texter plans will be available as soon as we can get them up. The eagle-eyed among you will see that the free Spotify for the length of the contract of the £35 Internet Texter plan also insn’t visible on the pre-sale page. If you decide to buy now don’t worry, you’ll still get the Spotify added onto your plan. As I say, we’re still updating the page.

Pre-sale is only available online – this isn’t something you can do over the phone so please don’t be frustrated if our advisors aren’t fully up to speed.

If you’re an existing customer, our previous comments still stand. Our deals for you may be based on your individual usage so we can’t tell you generically on the blog what will be available to you. Please call us on the 20th if you’re in your upgrade window and we’ll talk you through your options. The Upgrades team have their own stock allocation which will be available from the 20th.

I know you’re all aware of how in-demand the Desire is, and we’ve got our hands on as many as HTC can supply us with. We’re still working closely with them to secure more volume post launch.

Thanks for your feedback (again!).

@Kumaran – If you have a contract with 3 you will only be able to upgrade your phone up to 3 months before your contract ends. However, you will only get the best deals from 1 month before your contract ends. Hope that answers your question. Regards Mod :-)

  3. Kumaran on November 19, 2010

    Hi

I am with 3, on a contract for 18 months, and have completed 9 months.
Somehow, the vendor (Tesco) managed to sell this contract with Nokia 5230 mobile, which is utter waste.
The mobile operating system hangs frequently and the battery life is very disappointing..
I could not use the free skype calls from this mobile for more than 10 minutes.

Is there any way to upgrade to HTC Desire HD ?

    pl advice..

    cheers
    Kumaran

@Matty – Carphone Warehouse will offer you different deals and we don’t use the word unlimited in our packages any more. If you can wait till your final month then call 333, you’ll be offered the best deals we have available.

  5. Matty on October 22, 2010

I see Carphone Warehouse are offering the Desire @ £25 a month on 3, 500 mins, unlimited texts and Internet. How come I can not get this deal direct with you. I am in the final two months of contract.

    Please advise.

  6. Nellster on October 20, 2010

I upgraded to Froyo today and it looks great, Thank you!

  7. Moderator on October 14, 2010

@Gordon Thomson – I’m afraid I can’t advise on individual upgrades but if you give 333 a call they’ll discuss upgrade options and as you’re so close to your contract end you’ll get the best deals available

  8. Moderator on October 13, 2010

@Matty – No not yet I’m afraid but it’s worth registering your interest here, so you get updates.

  9. Gordon Thomson on October 13, 2010

    @ Moderator

I’m due for an upgrade on the 28th, and I’ve been looking at seeing if I can get the Desire – is there a way of paying up front in order to make this upgrade happen? I can afford to pay some money up front at present, but not to increase my contract significantly. Any ideas?

  10. Matty on October 13, 2010

@Moderator Any idea the price plan costings for the Desire HD?

  11. Moderator on October 13, 2010

@Matty – Nope this isn’t true but the Desire HD will be launching soon, so it may be worth waiting for that…. :-)

  12. Matty on October 12, 2010

Hi in the final 3 months of my contract and keen for a Htc Desire, but i have heard that it may be discontinued with the newer models coming out. Is this true? If so would it be worth waiting until the cheaper deals come on aboard.

    Matty

@Kev – I don’t have details on whether we’ll be ranging them yet I’m afraid!

  14. kev on October 4, 2010

What are the plans for the new range of HTC phones, will Three be having them at Launch in the next week or so?

  15. Nellster on September 23, 2010

Brilliant, that’s good enough for me, and I don’t mind a bit of slippage; it’s being in the dark that is frustrating.

  16. John on September 23, 2010

I have not yet received Android 2.2 update for htc desire. I called up three and spoke to their advisors. So the gist of the conversation is that:

Op-We will not offer Android 2.2 to 3 handsets because 2.1 is much BETTER and is 3 branded.
Me- No but 2.2 has flash support and other features etc etc
Op- If you want the 2.2. update please go to htc.com and download it.

As absurd as it sounds I tried it and as I expected, this is an over the air update and can’t be downloaded on a laptop and then installed.

@Mod-can you clarify if 3 is ever going to offer the update to 2.2.?

I am beginning to regret not cancelling my contract when it was over. I am stuck with inefficiency for another 15 months.

  17. Moderator on September 23, 2010

@Nellster – End of the month is what we’re aiming for. We’re waiting on approvals. Would like to give a confirmed date but I don’t have one I’m afraid.

  18. Nellster on September 21, 2010

Just found Sept 6th reply to John (might not have got name right?) under the Social Networks blog. I have seem other networks have had problems and pulled the update but some indication of a due date would be nice. ‘Late summer’ is all I’ve heard and that’s passed now – Southern England.

  19. Nellster on September 21, 2010

I’ve seen John’s question and your response on Aug 3rd but I’ve not seen anything anywhere; when will we get Android 2.2 Froyo on the HTC Desire?

  20. Moderator on September 17, 2010

@Paul – I can’t say for sure but we do try and get all the latest handsets so it could be worth hanging on… ;-)

  21. Moderator on September 17, 2010

@Dorian – I’m afraid I can’t say whether we’ll be ranging this phone yet… We issue media alerts when we announce the new phones we have available so it’s worth keeping an eye on our media centre.

  22. paul on September 16, 2010

thanks mod, did ring and got offered a fairly good deal, however, i couldn’t get any enlightenment re: the new Desire HD and release date. Have you any idea as i don’t want to jump too soon…

    Thanks again.

  23. Dorian on September 16, 2010

    @mod

Are you going to be offering the Desire HD and if so have you got an estimate for when they will be in stock.

  24. Moderator on September 16, 2010

@Paul – This is a third party deal I’m afraid with their own prices and incentives. If you want to know the best deal you can get from us call 333 in your last month of contract.

  25. Dorian on September 16, 2010

    @ Paul

I saw this deal as well, its through buymobilephones.net and only for new customers to 3. They charge £130 upfront for the handset to upgrade customers.

  26. paul on September 15, 2010

    Hi mod,
some websites(ITProportal) reporting HTC Desire going on clearance from various web suppliers on a 3 contract for £20 per month and £40 up front for the handset.(900 mins/texts 1gb data etc) I am due my upgrade as my contract ends Oct 8th and dont want to be shafted with another rubbish handset (LG Renoir such a let down and continuos problems…) Can you confirm as 3 website not showing this offer.

    Paul.

  27. Moderator on September 13, 2010

@Martin – we’ll get in touch with you via email

  28. Martin on September 13, 2010

I’ve also been eligible for an upgrade sine August – contract ends 26th October, but was told by 3 Cust Serv, that I had to wait until 26th September to get a good deal on an upgrade – is this true? I suppose it gives me time to look for an alternative. what current upgrade deals are available?

    Thanks

    Martin

  29. Moderator on September 13, 2010

@Moe – I’ll send you a direct message so we can advise you on upgrades

  30. Moe on September 10, 2010

can I ask what type of deals customers have taken or been offered for an upgrade to the HTC Desire? I have been eligible for upgrade since August 11 and think my contract ends at the end of October

  31. Moderator on August 12, 2010

@Paul W & @Daniel – I’m sorry there’s been some confusion over the delivery dates for your iPhone 4s.We don’t want to disappoint so we’ve set a conservative expectation, but if the phones arrive sooner they will be turned around asap to get to customers earlier than the promised date.

  32. Kalu on August 5, 2010

JUst a note that you can upgrade to 2.2 (Froyo) if you have an unbranded Desire from 3, just go to settings and click on about phone, then check for software updates.
I have Froyo running on my 3 Desire handset and it is brilliant and no 3 bloatware anywhere to be seen :D

  33. Moderator on August 4, 2010

@Pins – we’ve got a few exclusive customer offers on the table at the moment, including the Sony Ericsson X10 for £25 a month. Give us a call on 0800 358 4397 and we’ll talk you through the options.

  34. Pins on August 3, 2010

I have been on a 3 contract for many years and got my HTC desire back in April from 3. My wife has been with Orange for yonks but I am trying to get her to convert to a 3 contract. Are there any deals for a 2nd handset for existing long-term customers. Please advise.

    Cheers,

    Pins

  35. Moderator on August 3, 2010

@john – we know that HTC have been updating customers with generic Desires to 2.2, but they’re building a specific version for Three. This will take them a few weeks. Once we have this version from them we’ll test it and get it out. Realistically we’re looking at late summer until customers with Three branded Desires will have 2.2.
