iPhone4Black

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks, but finally they’re here.

If you haven’t already spotted them, our plans for iPhone have been revealed on Three.co.uk – click here for all the details.

iPhone 4 on Three will be available in Apple stores from today, you’ll also be able to get iPhone 3GS today which we’ll be selling on Three.co.uk and through our own stores.

We’ll let you know as soon as you can buy iPhone 4 from us directly.

You’ll also find a useful FAQ on three.co.uk/iPhone which should help to answer a few of your questions.

Let us know what you think about our plans. I hope they’ve been worth the wait…

@MattR – Yes the plan will include VAT…There have been a couple of cases highlighted on here where it looks like mistakes have been made but come back to me if this happens.

  2. Moderator on August 19, 2010

@A black – This sounds like an error. VAT should be included in your plan, even though it appears itemised on your bill. @Waqar is right – ring 333 and they should be able to assist. If they don’t resolve the issue come back to me.

  3. Waqar on August 19, 2010

    @ matt r and a Black

there seems to be a few people this happened to. Just ring 333 it should be £30 inc VAT

  4. MattR on August 18, 2010

Hi, I would just like some clarification about whether the plans include VAT? I was told my plan would cost £30 pm, but if VAT isn’t included then I’m looking closer to £35. The person who called me for me to upgrade to the iPhone did not inform me of paying extra for vat!

  5. A black on August 18, 2010

Im very upset, me and my wife both went in the three store and got a iphone on the £30 per month contract (£35 with a reoccuring £5 discount), i asked if that was including vat but today we both had our first bill and both were £35, £29 + £5 vat?!?!

@ Dave – Sorry whilst stocks are low and demand is high for the iPhone 4 we won’t be able to offer it to our business customers. If you register your interest on the website, we’ll be in touch.

  7. Dave on August 16, 2010

I am a buisness user and interested in the I phone 4. Can you please indicate estimated arrival date for the handset on the buisness tariff.

The website has been saying that the phone is coming soon for at least 2 months now.

  8. Moderator on August 12, 2010

@Customer – no sorry this isn’t a known issue. Has it been resolved yet? Let me know and I’ll look into it.

“Customer”, Three’s returns policy does not affect your statutory rights. Your local Citizens Advice Bureau or Trading Standards office will be able to advise further.

  11. customer on August 5, 2010

    @MOD (returns policy)

I knew this is going to happen,How can I check the phone hardware/software without using it…

In short..thanks for the next 2 years of nightmare…

    @ MOd

Thanks for updating, but one thing I don’t like of 3 is not maintaining the link.Every time I get a support call from 3
its a different person sometime I have to repeat whole story sometime I don’t .But everyone has some or the other answers I understand no body can be available for me 24 hrs and its a call centre people keep changing. But in short it doesn’t work for e.g. because you amswer all my querries I am used to it. if tomorrow you stop or somebody takes your ownership than the case might be different and it would be same for every customer…

about your network answer its contracting with call I got yesterday 3rd august.3 customer supporter told me that there is some work plan in mid oct.to my nearer mast (easing the congestion on 1 mast) and I have to wait untill mid oct..and you are saying something different but is really interesting and I am enjoying until I find the solution and come to conclusion for my dongle contract..

    once again tahnks for update

  14. Moderator on August 4, 2010

@customer – quick update for you on the network problems you were having the other day. It looks like original fault was cleared, but a new one appeared in its place. An engineer was assigned to go out to the site yesterday so you should have seen an improvement today. Is this the case? For your postcode we do know that you sit on the edge between ‘indoor & outdoor coverage’ and ‘outdoor with some indoor coverage’, so your indoor coverage may be a little variable.

  15. Moderator on August 4, 2010

@Thom – we’ve spotted this too. It seems to be intermittent so worth trying a couple of times, but we’ve got our technical team on the case.

  16. customer on August 4, 2010

    @ MOD

Can I return the iphone 4 and continue my expired old plan with paying the differnce amount I used, and buy
after few months if some of the common problems are fixed…

reason being iphone4 is a crap device I have ever seen,
it does not have basic functions like
    forwarding a contract
    customize ringtone easily
    sending v card
    bluettooth file transfer,
there are some other in the list but not now…

Moderator I would also like to receive an email regarding 3′s position on the web filter they have in place. This does seem to be an over zealous use of censorship when (as has been pointed out in this blog several times) everyone who opens an account with 3 needs to be 18 or over. Please could you advise how I go about removing this filter.

  18. Thom on August 3, 2010

I’m not sure if this is purely Three related but the app store keeps showing me the code of the page rather than the page itself and occasionally it’ll bring up the PC page rather than the iPhone one… Telling me to log in to iTunes to make my purchase… My friends on other networks haven’t got these issues?! I wondered if this was to do with any special Three APN settings? Have any one else experienced this?

  19. Moderator on August 2, 2010

    @Roger – yes, we allow tethering :-)

  20. Moderator on August 2, 2010

    @Thom – I’ll drop you an email :-)

  21. Moderator on August 2, 2010

@JNR – if the network performs fine on your old phone, this could be to do with Apple’s hardware issue. Had you tried using the phone with a bumper or a case?

  22. Moderator on August 2, 2010

@shaun – if you find that the iPhone 4 significantly impacts the level of coverage you receive we will honour Apple’s 30 day returns policy. We’re just working through the detail of how this will work.

  23. Roger on August 2, 2010

It has been mentioned a few times here already, but is tethering allowed or not? I occasionally take my laptop away from home and would like the ability to connect to the internet via my iphone. Buying a add-on seems a waste of money and the 1GB allowance that comes with the phone is ample.

  24. Thom on August 1, 2010

  25. Thom on August 1, 2010

Hi moderator, I’m having issues with the web filter blocking forums and websites (as kipper has pointed out this is unnecessary censorship). I was able to get around this previously by adjusting access point settings, however this isn’t possible on there’s iPhone 4 as you’ve hidden the menu item for adjusting this! What do I need to do to get this web filter lifted? Thanks :)

  26. JNR on August 1, 2010

Service great on 3 as ever…. however when upgraded to iPhone the reception was useless. A Nokia phone showing and working with a full 3g signal running along side a iphone with no signal at all ……. this all within sight of a mast and in a major town … ie Chelmsford Essex . If we moved around the county the signal would come up , but it has to be said it was very unpredictable . We were given another new iphone to try , but with the same results if not worse!! The contract was cancelled and will have rethink. Have you any ideas

  27. shaun on July 31, 2010

hi am due for an upgrade soon but am concerned when we read about the problems with the iphone 4 , its signal probs and also on the apple blog about the usb lead overheating.. i also read that the free bumper to help with signal probs will expire aroundthe end of oct when apple bring out the white iphone which will have the problems with the latest phone all sorted .. are 3 ready for the possibly rush of problems associated with iphone ,have they checked that the usb problems will not occur and that the software is up to day with the signal problems..

  28. Alan on July 31, 2010

Those having issues with accessing ‘adult’ sites might want to try using Opera as a browser rather than Safari. It uses a proxy to compress the data and speed up performance, but in doing so also bypasses the filter.

  29. Ibrahim Gucukoglu on July 30, 2010

    Hi Mod.

I certainly am, please could you email me with further details of who to contact and details of the positions available. I am disabled so this will also need to be taken in to account, though I’m a proficient computer user with screen reading and other technologies to aid me.

  30. Moderator on July 30, 2010

@Ibrahim Guckoglu – we’re increasing our social media team here at head office so that Three can play a more active role in this space. We have no plans to change or move our current customer service set-up, but naturally our social media team will help customers when they can through our blog, Twitter and through other presences as and when we launch them. We have been recruiting for a team of Social Media Producers for a few months – we posted about it here (BTW that post’s from a different Sarah, not me!). If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you :-)

  31. Moderator on July 30, 2010

@Kipper – I’ll drop you a note about this, we should be able to arrange something now.

  32. Rafal on July 30, 2010

I was told as well that I can’t upgrade to a iPhone 4. My contract finished 2 months ago and I was only waiting to that moment, when iPhone 4 will be available (it took 1 month). I’ve registered few times to the waiting list, and they told me before that I could upgrade without problems. Today, some lady told me that I can’t upgrade and I can’t move my existing number. So I’ve to pay £189 (for 32GB) and after £35/month, and she told me to call 333 and resign from my old contract and convert it to Pay As You Go, and tell the reason that I’m going to other country?!, then I could move my existing number to the new iPhone 4 after 1 month. It’s a normal procedure or I was cheated somehow?

  33. Ibrahim Gucukoglu on July 30, 2010

Hi Mod. Firstly, its great to have a name from you, I really appreciate everything that you’ve been doing for us here on the blog. You said that you’d be increasing your customer support at head office, does this shift in support indicate a willingness to move customer service operations back to the UK? How will this increased customer service presence at head office affect customers, what are you hoping to achieve by taking on more staff? Finally, if your planning to expand your team, will there be opertunities for the public to apply for open positions?

  34. Kipper on July 30, 2010

    Hi Mod (Sarah)

You are doing a grand job responding to everyone but the stuff about IMCB classification being behind the internet filtering is wrong. From the IMCB remit statement on their web site and repeated below – “Content accessed via the internet or WAP where the Mobile Operator is providing connectivity only” is not restricted by the IMCB remit.

When will these filters be lifted?

I’m getting to closer to the last 30 days of my current contract and the ongoing presence of this filter will effect whether I upgrade to the iPhone 4 on three or go elsewhere.

    Remit

IMCB’s remit is to determine a Classification Framework for Commercial Content against which Content Providers can self-classify their own content (whether provided directly or indirectly) as 18 where appropriate. Such content will be placed behind Access Controls so that, when combined with age verification arrangements, it is only available to those identified as 18 or over.

Commercial Content services which fall within IMCB’s remit and the Classification Framework include:

    * Still pictures
    * Video and audiovisual material
    * Mobile games, including java-based games

Services which fall outside IMCB’s remit and the Classification Framework are:

    * Text, audio and voice-only services, including where delivered as a Premium Rate Service and regulated by PhonepayPlus
    * Gambling services (because they are age restricted by UK legislation)
    * Moderated and unmoderated chat rooms (commercial unmoderated chat rooms will only be accessible by those 18 and over)
    * Location-Based Services (which are the subject of a separate Mobile Operator code of practice available at http://www.imcb.org.uk)
    * Content generated by subscribers, including web logs
    * Content accessed via the internet or WAP where the Mobile Operator is providing connectivity only

  35. Moderator on July 30, 2010

@customer – aww shucks *blushing*! My name’s Sarah and I’m based in Three’s head office, we’ll be expanding the team here very soon so that we can provide great customer service more of the time.

  36. Moderator on July 30, 2010

@Yevgeny – As part of our commitment to protecting young people from accessing age inappropriate content, we take a responsible approach to the way adult sites are accessed on our network. In order to do this, and to make sure that we comply with the correct regulations and guidelines, we work closely with the Independent Mobile Classification Body (IMCB). Their framework sets the standard for the classification of commercial content, and an equivalent standard is then applied to the filters mobile operators apply to the internet. See here for more details.

If you find this filter is impacting you when you start using your phone, please come back to me and let me know :-) .

  37. Moderator on July 30, 2010

@KMR – I don’t believe Apple do have a data transfer service. Sincere apologies that this wasn’t communicated to you at the start. If your contacts were saved to your old phone, I’d suggest trying to get that back, and then backing up your contacts onto your PC using the relevant PC Suite software. I can provide you with this. You can then sync your contacts into iTunes. Sorry that I can’t be of more help.

  38. customer on July 30, 2010

    @ Thanks MOD,

If possible can I know your name and details (location) please. Because in last 3.5 years with 3 you are the only person in 3 I enjoyed talking to and getting the service.Others are also doing well but I will grade them as Ok and not excellent like you..

  39. Yevgeny on July 29, 2010

Is there a restriction on websites you can visit when browsing on 3 network?!
    sorry for my English…

  40. KMR on July 29, 2010

    @ mod

It’s no good telling us this now – Three should have been giving us this advice from the start. It’s obviously too late now since most of us have set up our micro-sim. Do you know if apple or Three offer some kind of sim transfer service to transfer data over?
