iPhone4Black

It’s been a hectic couple of weeks, but finally they’re here.

If you haven’t already spotted them, our plans for iPhone have been revealed on Three.co.uk – click here for all the details.

iPhone 4 on Three will be available in Apple stores from today, you’ll also be able to get iPhone 3GS today which we’ll be selling on Three.co.uk and through our own stores.

We’ll let you know as soon as you can buy iPhone 4 from us directly.

You’ll also find a useful FAQ on three.co.uk/iPhone which should help to answer a few of your questions.

Let us know what you think about our plans. I hope they’ve been worth the wait…

@Paul Duncan – Sorry to read this and I will make sure your comments get passed to the relevant department for consideration.

  2. Paul Duncan on May 12, 2012

UPDATE: The phone *did* eventually unlock itself. Did not seem to need wi-fi, did not come up with messages saying that activation was required. So, I suppose it all ended well in the end, but I did find the procedure frustrating, and it did take the best part of three days.

    TTFN,

    Paul.

  3. Lauren Donnelly on May 10, 2012

@Paul – sorry to hear you had a poor experience with unlocking your phone. Have you managed to do it now? We charge an unlock fee of £15.32 to cover administration costs of requesting the code from the manufacturer.

  4. Paul Duncan on May 9, 2012

Beware. Three will charge you the unlock fee for unlocking your iphone, but the tech support are *clueless* about how it actually works. They say take out the SIM card. Turn the phone off. Turn the phone back on. Put the SIM in, wait for the phone to shut down and restart itself (it never does), then wait for an “activation required” message to come up (it never does). At which point you should make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi (hence I’m writing this in Starbucks) so that it can do the activation of the Internet (which it never does). Come on Three, ditch the crappy outsourced tech support department, and hire some people with a clue. Either that or develop a better expert system for the existing people to get the answers from. Either way the existing system is not acceptable.

@Gulen – I’m afraid we can only unlock the phone for the original account holder. We’d need them to get in touch with us and go through their account security in order to unlock the phone. They’d also be required to make a payment of £15.32 by credit or debit card. I’m afraid we cannot unlock the phone for anyone apart from the account holder.

I bought an Iphone 4 on ebay and it turned up to be locked to 3 though I was told it was unlocked. I cannot contact the seller now. How may I get the phone unlocked?

  7. Moderator: Johanna on April 30, 2012

@Hanah – Did you let both insurance providers know you were making two claims on the same phone. To unlock you will need to contact 333 and they can advise.

  8. Hanah on April 27, 2012

I signed contract with three and got the locked iphone 4s. Unfortunately, I lost that iphone. Because I registered insurrance for my phone with both three network and my bank through benefit from silver account, I got two new iphone 4s which are locked by three network from them. I am just studying in UK and I will go back my country in next months, thus can I unlock those phone?

  9. Moderator: Johanna on April 20, 2012

@Alex – I see you are looking to unlock your phone, if not bought from Three then our team won’t be able to help you and if it came from Three you will need all the account details I’m afraid.

  10. Alex on April 20, 2012

@Moderator: Kaz – Dear Moderators! There were few questions from me below, with still no answer from you.
In spite of this I’ve try to call your customer service +7782 333 333, but it’s impossible to get ANY help, if I don’t have Three telephone number.
Please, let somebody from your managers contact me via e-mail and explain this situation. I’ve already wasting to much time with this simple case, and I’m not going leave all this peacefully.
    Appreciate.

  11. Moderator: Kaz on April 19, 2012

@Alex – I’m afraid the only the way to unlock your phone is to call customer services and there will a charge of £15. The best number to call while abroad is +7782 333 333

  12. Alex on April 19, 2012

@Moderator – Thanks a lot for the answer, but I live in Russia and do not have any possibility to get any Three sim card here. And no, I’ve never put Three sim card in.
So I still have some questions:
    1. Can I call 0843 373 3333 from Skype? And sure I’m not find it fair if it will costs me £15.
    2. I will appreciate, if we will solve my problem via e-mail – I can send you serial number and IMEI. Why we can’t do to it this way?
    3. Who is responsible for this problem? Apple or Three? I’ve already have contact Apple Support, and they direct me to Three… I’ll be highly disappointed, if you will point me back to Apple.

  13. Moderator on April 18, 2012

@Alex – Hi there. I’ve only seen this a couple of times before. We’ve never been able to get an explanation from the manufacturer as to why it happens. Sometimes it can lock itself to the first network sim card that’s put in the phone. Have you ever put a Three sim in it?

In order to unlock your phone you’d need to contact our customer services on 0843 373 3333, or 333 from a Three phone if you know anyone on Three.

  14. Alex on April 18, 2012

I bought a sim-free iPhone 3gs in UK, use it for a while, but after upgrade to iOS 5.1 it begins to require a special carrier sim-card. I called Apple Support UK, and they told me that I have to ask Three to unlock my iPhone (after they check my serial number). I fell very upset about this story, because I’ve never even heard about your company; I don’t have any marks about carrier lock on/inside package. I can easily provide you with part and serial number or IMEI if it will helps.
How it can be possible and whose fault is it?

  15. Moderator: Kaz on April 5, 2012

@David Kursten – The best number to call from abroad to unlock your phones is +44 7782 333 333

  16. David Kursten on April 5, 2012

My wife and I have recently moved from the UK to The Cayman Islands.

Before leaving, we cancelled our contracts with 3 and purchased 2 new contract free iPhone’s (3GS) from Carphone Warehouse. As we still had time on our 3 sim cards, we decided to use them in our phones until leaving the UK – planning to sign up with a new network upon arriving in the Cayman Islands.

When we arrived, we purchased pay as you go SIM cards from a local network and found that they were invalid in our phones as the phones were locked to 3.

How can we unlock our iPhones to use locally? What number do we contact 3 on from here?

  17. Moderator: Johanna on March 26, 2012

@Zibi – You can indeed unlock your iPhone, you just need to call 333 and pay £15 for it to be unlocked.

  18. Zibi on March 24, 2012

I have a iphone 4 on the network 3 UK, to the end of the contract was given to me years, I’m going to Polish for 4 months, I would like to use the local network, or I get a chance to unlock my iphone 4 ?

  19. Moderator: Sedge on March 6, 2012

@Sergey – Unfortunately not, only the original owner of the iPhone can unlock the phone. We recommend getting back in touch with them via eBay and requesting that they unlock the phone, it’ll cost £15 and can be done by calling 333.

  20. Sergey on March 6, 2012

I bought iPhone 4 on eBay. In the box, I’ve found a brochure of operator 3(three). With russian sim cards activation isn’t possible. Can i unlock my iPhone? How do it, if i don’t have Three sim card (number)?

  21. Moderator: Kaz on February 29, 2012

@doombaa – I’m afraid the original owner of the phone will have to contact our colleagues in customer service by phone to get it unlock. There is no other way round this, sorry.

  22. doombaa on February 29, 2012

    hi
i got my iphone from my brother who was using 3 sim in the uk..Is it possible for me to get it unlocked here in my country Nepal by submitting my imei no.?? what do i have to do for that??

  23. Vlad on February 9, 2012

    @Kaz

Great news, I will give it a try!
I’ve got a friend of mine who bought the phone from the same place but it locked to another operator, he now goes in a cycle with them, Apple, CPW each one of them referring him around.
Hope I could say I am lucky!

  24. Moderator: Kaz on February 8, 2012

@Vlad – Yes, just give 333 a call to unlock your phone.

  25. Vlad on February 8, 2012

I got a “sim free” unlocked iPhone 4S from CPW but it turns out it got locked to my PAYG sim from Three after first usage, I am abroad for 2 moths at the moment, will I be able to unlock it through 333 ?

  26. Moderator: Johanna on February 6, 2012

@Gatis – You can unlock the iPhone 4 straight away, just call 333 and there’s a £15 charge.

  27. Moderator: Johanna on February 6, 2012

@malin – Yes indeed you can, just call 333 and they’ll unlock the phone for around a £15 charge. So long as you have the right sized SIM, then yes you can.

  28. Moderator: Johanna on February 6, 2012

@Lisa – It should be done within a couple of hours. If you still haven’t heard I’m afraid you may need to call the team at 333 back.

  29. Gatis on February 6, 2012

    hello
I wanted to find out how long the client must have to be unlocked Iphone 4?
Because I want to leave the currencies of the month and use it with another card.

    thank you

  30. malin on February 4, 2012

If I just ordered a three iphone can I get it unlocked straight away? I would also know if you vcan use three sim cards from Sweden in it as I often go there for long holidays.
    Thanks in forehand.
