#AskThree about smartphones.

We’re back with our second #AskThree session on Twitter! Last time we were on hand to answer all your questions about Three and all-you-can-eat data, this time we’re giving you full access to our Devices team so you can grill us about smartphones.

You can catch us on Friday afternoon over on our @ThreeUK Twitter account.

It’s been a really pivotal year for the industry as far as hardware is concerned. We’ve seen a huge shift from the plastic 2G feature phones of the ‘90s, to the high-spec, high-speed smartphones we know today.

We’ve seen some impressive launches, from the Galaxy Nexus to the iPhone 4S, and right the way through to Nokia’s first Windows phone, the Lumia 800. The battle for supremacy between Android, Windows and Apple is getting ever fiercer.

With access to faster network technology inching closer all the time, and new and innovative services like Near Field Communication (NFC) heading our way, owning a smartphone has never been so full of possibilities.

If you’ve read any of Phil Sheppard’s most recent post you’ll know how important data is to Three, and we’re supporting this by making sure our phone range is packed full of the latest and greatest devices from the world’s best known manufacturers. In fact, 90% of the phones in our handset portfolio are now smartphones.

So, on Friday 25th November between 12.30 and 2.30 my team and I – that’s me, Sylvia, plus Brendan, Tom and Andy – will be taking over the @ThreeUK account. Whether you want to know what 2012 has in store, or if you’re angling for the latest news about a software update – we’ll be ready and waiting with the answers.

To ask us a question, simply pop it into a tweet along with the hashtag #AskThree. You can follow the conversation through Twebevent here, or by setting up a search column for #AskThree on Tweetdeck or Hootsuite.

Looking forward to talking to you on the 25th – I can’t wait :) !

Nokia E6?, I really lke the touch screen element. Is the blackberry the only option for me?

  2. Moderator: Sedge on February 21, 2012

@ Adrian – Not right now I’m afraid.

  3. Adrian on February 21, 2012

Can you please advise whether you have decided yet to offer the Samsung Galaxy Note? My contract with 3 is up for renewal soon and this is the phone I will be looking for.

  4. Moderator: Sedge on February 1, 2012

@Nini878 – We don’t have any plans to range the Nokia N6 I’m afraid.

  5. nini878 on January 31, 2012

    Nokia N6? Is it possible?

  6. nini878 on January 31, 2012

Nokia N6? Is it possible ?

  7. Moderator: Kaz on January 27, 2012

@Graham – I’m afraid I don’t have any details about these makes. I will of course pass your comments onto our Devices team.

  8. Graham on January 27, 2012

Any plans to ‘range’ other makes? Pansonic (who want to break into the European market) and Motorola (who now make some excellent phones) would be great additions.

  9. Moderator: Johanna on January 23, 2012

@Andy Frappe – I’m afraid we have no plans to range the 32GB Nexus, but we do have lots of new handsets on the horizon…

  10. Andy Trappe on January 22, 2012

Currently 3 only offers the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with 16GB on board memory. I understand a white version of the phone along with a 32GB version of the grey/black phone are hitting the UK on Feb 6th. Do 3 have any plans to make the 32GB version available under a pay monthly plan as my contract renewal is due soon?

  11. Moderator: Sedge on January 17, 2012

@ Sean – We can’t confirm the roll out just yet I’m afraid. We’ll let you know more when we can.

  12. Sean on January 16, 2012

you may have been asked this before but when will three be updating the galaxyG2 to icecream sandwich

  13. Moderator: Kaz on January 16, 2012

@vinay – Thanks for letting us know and glad it’s all sorted.

  14. vinay on January 16, 2012

    @ MODERATOR

problem sorted about my upgrade returns. They have now updated the systems as having received the packages. I found the post office tracking for both phones which says delivered to three on the 10th of jan but that was not needed anyway as three staff seem to have updated their systems today.

  15. vinay on January 15, 2012

    @ Johanna

Just one request. I had sent a reply to your email mentioning both my numbers and account details. I had sent both upgrade phones back (on both my numbers) via special delivery in their respective special delivery envelopes from the same post office at the same time. it should have reached three on tuesday. When i called i am told that they have updated my account as having received the phones back on one number but not the other number. I was also told that this happens sometimes if the warehouse hasnt updated the details. But i cant port out my numbers using the PAC codes given to me without phone being recorded as received or i will be billed the cost for the phones due to threes records not being updated by the warehouse staff. Can someone ask the relavant dept to update my account details please with the phone as having being received back.

I was offered today further discussion for my upgrade but i refused to be put through as have had enough headaches talking to them in recent times and would rather they update my details correctly so that i can move on.

ps: Just a positive comment though. Credit where credit is due. The connection speeds have been great on my samsung galaxy note during the last week with download speeds of (using speed test app by ookla) ranging from a great 6501kbps to 3591kbps at worst with it hovering above 4000kbps at most times. The upload speeds are ranging from 3349kbps to 2636kbps which is great as well.

bbc iplayer plays fine at high quality video settings and as does skype app (the one from the android market and not the one available from three website previously). The speeds are great and faster than my home broadband connection. And guess great compared to the competition.

I paid 529.99 for the handset. – the £120 i got for the wildfire s. Works Great on my 3 contract sim. Carphone warehoude are excellent for warranty IMO. Less hastle than other ways if there are any probs. I wanted the Note & the 1 plan. this was the best way for me since 3 wernt going to stock the phone.

  17. Mick Bartlett on January 12, 2012

Thanks for that, just got to find a cheap Note now!

  18. Moderator: Sedge on January 12, 2012

@Mick Barlett – Yeah that’ll work, no problem.

  19. Mick bartlett on January 12, 2012

Does anyone know if an existing 3 sim on a contract will work in an unlocked Galaxy Note?

  20. Mick bartlett on January 12, 2012

Does anyone know if an existing 3 sim on a contract will work in an unlocked Galaxy Note? Plan on buying one then selling my upgarde that is due soon!

  21. Kevin on January 12, 2012

OMG.. so it’s official then.. you are not going to range the Galaxy Note.. never? oh well looks like I’m going to have to swap back to the other carriers.. reluctantly.. after 5 years :(

  22. vinay on January 9, 2012

    @Thanendar
oops for got to mention that loads of swiss websites have had it (samsung galaxy note) for around the £370-400 range recently too. But the cheapest deal with contract was for about £352 for entire duration of the contract! But that deal vanished like hot cakes.

  23. vinay on January 9, 2012

    @Thanendar
you say you bought from carphonewarehouse. Hope you didnt pay the ridiculous pricing on their website of £599.95

If you did then use your return period if you want to return the phone and save 180£ by ordering from amazon.de as you get an EU wide guarantee from amazon.de or use some of the UK websites where you can get it for around £475 but if you explore even further then you can get it for (after taxes) about £370 in India / Australia etc but with territory limited warranty. But the savings you make you can easily buy a warranty from warranty providers in the UK and still make a substantial savings. Odd business decision for three not to stock this great phone with probably the best specs on the market and stocked by most other mobile networks and many websites. Some websites have had it on contract costing about £352 for entire duration of contract !!!(i missed out getting that deal) and Three cant stock such a phone!

If you bought it before the 31st of dec then I hope you made use of the vouchers for samsung galaxy note worth £120. If you havent then tough luck because the offer is gone now.

I am doing the same like you and geting rid of my old phones to subsidise the cost of purchase of this phone.

    @Johanna
After I replied to your email, I got a call from Three but with a worse offer than before, so I refused it and have received the special delivery envelopes late on saturday, so couldn’t mail back the phones that day as post offices closed by then, so posted back the phones in unopened boxes in the special delivery envelopes. Just some feedback about the returns enveloped, the envelopes / accompanying letter just have some reference number and the IMEI number is not mentioned, so people (guess only a few) returning more than one package at same time don’t know which phone needs to go on which envelope, so needed to call to enquire which phone goes in which envelope, after some time on the phone i managed to get the required info today afternoon and have soon after have mailed them by special delivery. Do I get an acknowledgement from three that they have received the phones? They should get this probably by 11am tomorrow, so will call in the afternoon and confirm receipt. Later will port out my number in the next couple of days to some sim only plan elsewhere.

I found it odd that three told me they will bill me 69£ if they dont receive the phones back. Looks like three charges the same for the new phones and the ones delivered to me were refurbished ones so wondering why they were quoting that ridiculous figure for a cheap refurbished phone. The same as can be seen on carphonewarehouse and O2 online phone valuations is barely worth £25 I think. Anyway have returned the ‘unopened boxes’ in the envelopes the next day (after receiving the envelopes) when post office was open. So busy looking for cheap sim deals.
