Searching for love.

It’s the time of year that you all become hopeless romantics. Flowers, cards, chocolates… you put the phone down, no you put the phone down. But it’s not just the act of calling your Valentine that’s making you reach for your phone, it’s going online too.

In fact, loads of you seem to have been using your smartphones to look for love in the run up to today. We’ve seen a 25% increase in traffic in the past two weeks to both Match.com and eHarmony.com.

The busiest day of the week for checking out potential love-matches is Sunday, with an average 20% increase on Saturday traffic. The least popular day of the week for looking at profiles was Friday – perhaps because by then those on the look out for love have already found themselves a date for the weekend.

People appear to be using their commute in and out of work as a good time for perusing possible dates as our data shows users moving between cells as they log on, with the busiest peak between 5.30pm and 7pm.

And while for those looking for love the mobile internet is proving to be a great help, we also expect to see an increase in the more traditional form of communication on Valentines Day. Today, February 14th is the second most popular day of the year for sending MMS messages – with only Halloween seeing more of this traffic.

Happy Valentines :-) .
