Just the essentials.

At Three, we know that not all of our customers are international jet-setters, hopping on a plane to foreign climes at the drop of a hat. Some of you are home bodies who spend most of your time in the UK rather than abroad. Being able to use your phone abroad at no extra cost is great, but what if you don’t really need that? What if you’re not seeing the benefit?

We get that. Which is why we’ve launched a new range of Essential plans – a cost-effective set of plans that give you great value and flexibility as well as the freedom to choose a plan based on what you need, without having to pay for the stuff you don’t.

These ‘no-frills’ plans include 4G at no extra cost and are available for a range of different phones as well as on 1 and 12 month SIM plans. You’ll also have the flexibility to make both short and long term changes to your plan throughout the contract.

What the Essential plans don’t include is our Feel At Home service, tethering (using your phone as a hotspot) and inclusive calls to customer service numbers. Not everyone needs to tether, just like not everyone needs to be able to use their phone abroad. Pay for the stuff you need, not the stuff you don’t.

In addition to the Essential plans, our existing plans are getting a bit of a makeover. They’ll now be known as the Advanced plans. These offer everything the Essential plans do, but also include Feel At Home and the option to use your phone as a personal hotspot.

In even more exciting news, as of today any new customers to Three will receive an Amazon voucher, ranging from £25-£50 depending on which plan they choose. Hurry though, this offer won’t last forever!

30 is the magic number.

30 is indeed the magic number. Especially when it comes to gigabytes on your phone. Today we’re really pleased to announce our latest plan which includes a tasty 30GB of data.

We’ve taken the decision to add this new 30GB plan in response to customer demand. With 30GB, you can stream up to 85 hours of standard definition video, 725 hours of music, or spend as many as 1200 hours browsing the internet*. The new plan is perfect for heavy smartphone users who don’t want to worry about exceeding their monthly data allowance when they’re catching up with the latest Netflix drama on the morning commute, or playing games online when they’re out and about without Wi-Fi.

VoLTE comes to Three.

It’s been a little while since we last had some network news to share. 2014 saw us roll out our 4G network and we’re still beavering away on this behind the scenes.

But this autumn will see something new coming to our network. It’s going to be getting a bit of a boost. This boost will come in the form of some low frequency spectrum (800MHz, to be precise) that we’ll be adding to the network.

Low frequency spectrum such as this will significantly enhance our coverage footprint, particularly indoors, which is excellent news when it comes to current coverage blackspots.

If you intend to tell everyone you love them this New Year…. Just remember one thing!

It’s 11pm on New Year’s Eve. A great time to message your entire contacts list with a soppy ‘I love you so much, happy new year!’ message. Nothing wrong with that we say. But before you press the send button we just want to make you aware of one thing…

Due to a larger than normal recipient list on New Year’s Eve some phones, by default, will convert a regular SMS (text message) to an MMS (picture message). Picture messages aren’t included in bundles, which means you guys could end up with a larger than normal bill.

Trade-in your old phone.

24 months is a long time to go between new phones isn’t it? I’m sure we all remember the halcyon days of 12 month contracts that pretty much guaranteed you a new phone once a year. If shiny new technology is your thing, sometimes even 6 months can seem like too long a time to have the same phone…

So if the latest, must-have phone is coming out, being only a few months in to your contract can seem frustrating to say the least. Even if you’re near the end of your contract, wouldn’t it be nice to already have any upfront cost on a new phone sorted?

That’s where our Trade-in service comes in.

Test drive live devices in store.

Did you know that all of our shiny new fit stores (all 217 of them!) have live, as in not dummy, as in turn on and play-with-all-you-like, phones?

Well they do 🙂 Meaning you can get your mitts on all the latest phones, see how you really get on with them, and their operating systems, before you make that life changing decision… Ok, so we’re exaggerating a little bit there. But it is still a big decision and you’re very often forking out quite a bit of money.

So next time you want to have a proper look at your prospective new phone, check out our new fit stores and get your hands on one for real;

Order online, collect in store.

You’ve ordered your shiny new phone and it’s due to be delivered the next day. You’re beyond excited, but there’s a problem. Your boss won’t let you take the day off to wait for the delivery at such short notice, bad times.

That’s where our fab new Click and Collect process comes in. If you order online, you now have the option of collecting your precious new hardware in one of 330 participating Three stores, whenever you flippin like (well, within 8 days anyway!) If you order before 4pm it’ll be ready for you to collect the very next day. Can’t be bad.

Apart from saving time and hassle, collecting in store has other benefits. If setting up your new phone seems a bit daunting; maybe you’re moving to a new operating system or you want to make absolutely sure you don’t lose your photos and music, our store staff will be on hand to help you out and get you started.

So, get clicking and collect at your leisure.

All our phones come unlocked.

Bad news for phone unlocking shops up and down the country….

We all know the pain of being stuck with a phone that’s locked to a particular network. Do you stick with the network, which may or may not be right for you at that time? Or do you go through the sometimes painful process of getting your phone unlocked, not to mention stumping up around £15 for the privilege.

Or, you’re lucky enough to be given a decent hand-me-down phone, but there’s a problem, you have to take out a contract with whoever the phone is locked to. Or again, attempt to get it unlocked.

Which? understand this common bug bear and have launched a campaign to get all networks to sell their phones unlocked.

The thing is, we’ve already started doing it. We’re one step ahead of them, which is definitely a good place to be 🙂
